How to Get More Subscribers on YouTube: 8 Habits

People subscribe on YouTube when they expect the next video to be as useful as the one they just watched. Views come from search and recommendations; subscribers come from a channel that makes that promise clearly and keeps it.

1. Make one kind of video

A viewer who liked your video on fixing a bike will not subscribe if the last five uploads were vlogs, a recipe and a game. A recognisable format makes subscribing an easy decision.

2. Earn the click honestly

Titles and thumbnails decide whether anyone watches. Make them specific and true to the video. Viewers who feel misled leave early, and early exits hurt how YouTube recommends you.

3. Ask at the right moment

Asking for a subscription in the first ten seconds is ignored. Asking right after you deliver something useful, with a reason (I post one of these every Tuesday), converts far better.

4. Use end screens and playlists

An end screen pointing to your next-best video keeps viewers on your channel. Someone who watches two or three of your videos is much more likely to subscribe than someone who watches one.

5. Use Shorts as a trailer

Shorts reach people who have never seen your channel. A Short that teases a longer video, with the full version linked, turns that reach into long-form viewers.

6. Upload on a schedule

A predictable upload day gives subscribers a reason to come back and gives new viewers confidence there will be more.

7. Make your channel page a menu

A channel trailer for non-subscribers, sections grouped by topic and a clear banner tell visitors what they get. Treat it like a shop window.

8. Reply to comments

Comment replies turn viewers into a community, and community members subscribe.

Where paid subscribers fit

Some new channels add subscribers so the count does not read zero. It breaks YouTube's terms, bought subscribers do not watch, and YouTube removes accounts it finds inauthentic. Read can you buy YouTube subscribers before deciding, and see the YouTube subscribers page for the services.
